Omar Soliman's client acquitted of four counts of Rape and one count of Controlling or Coercive Behaviour (causing fear of violence) following a four-week trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
The Crown alleged that the Defendant, who was married to the Complainant, had been forcing her into non-consensual and violent sexual relations over a three-year indictment period.
It was also alleged that the Defendant had engaged in Controlling or Coercive Behaviour that had resulted in the Complainant fearing violence.
The client maintained that all sexual activity within the marriage had been consensual. Furthermore, there were a number of third-party disclosures that indicated that she may not have been truthful on several previous occasions. Inconsistencies in the Complainant's account, in conjunction with her previous propensity to lie was forensically put to her in careful cross-examination.
After deliberating for 10 hours, the jury acquitted him of all four counts of Rape and one count of Controlling or Coercive Behaviour (causing fear of violence). He was convicted on the lesser charge of Controlling or Coercive Behaviour (causing serious alarm or distress) and one count of strangulation and awaits sentence.
