In June 2018, the City of London Police's Financial Crimes Units raided several addresses in the capital and found a "huge" Chinese money laundering racket.

Kevin Dent Q.C. and Alex Rooke prosecuted the case at Southwark Crown Court and on Wednesday 13 March 2019, six men were sentenced for a total of 24 years for their roles in the money laundering operation, involving around £5.5 million pounds.

Prosecutor Kevin Dent Q.C. said those in the dock were involved in a "successful, sophisticated and prolific" money laundering operation.

The six defendants all entered guilty pleas to money laundering offences. To read more about the case, click here to read the Sputnik news article in full.

Kevin Dent Q.C. is a highly persuasive advocate with a calm, measured, yet robust courtroom manner. Kevin took silk in 2019, building upon his heavyweight practice as a leading junior in the fields of financial crime and serious crime. Kevin is ranked in the Legal 500 in business and regulatory crime (including global investigations) new silks section (2019). With his talent for taking control of convoluted facts and getting to the heart of the matter, Kevin leads in multi-handed fraud, money laundering and revenue evasion.

Alex Rooke maintains a busy 50/50 defence and prosecution practice, and believes this is the best way of learning and retaining the skills applicable to both sides of the courtroom.  He has wide experience of cases involving serious violence, grave sexual offending, fraud and organised crime. He often appears alone against Queen's Counsel and 'senior juniors', and is known for his ability to deal sensitively with clients and witnesses who are having difficulty with the experience of the court process, be that because of vulnerability, cultural difference or simply what is at stake for the client.
