Bridget Todd successfully prosecuted two Italian Nationals who imported large quantities of counterfeit £1 coins which were used in the slot machines in four of major casinos in London. The counterfeit coins were of significant quality that they evaded the machines’ detection methods enabling the two defendants to collect over £8,000 in genuine winnings. Casino managers from the Hippodrome, Empire & London Poker Rooms identified the defendants and which slot machines had been played by careful scrutiny of their CCTV. The jury heard evidence from experts from the Royal Mint explaining the defects in the £1 coins. In total the defendants imported approximately £15,000 counterfeit £1 coins. They were sentenced to 10 months imprisonment at Canterbury Crown Court.
