Omar Soliman successfully defended a member of the Royal Air Force charged with sexual assault, securing an acquittal after a three-day trial at Bulford Court Martial Centre.
The case involved allegations that the Defendant had assaulted the Complainant at RAF Brize Norton. Omar’s defence successfully relied on s.41 YJCEA 1999 to introduce evidence of the previous sexual relationship between the parties, providing important context regarding the Defendant’s reasonable belief of consent.
The trial included careful and sensitive cross-examination, and after just one hour of deliberations, the six-person Board—comprising Officers of various ranks—returned a Not Guilty verdict, acquitting the Defendant of the single charge.
Omar was instructed by Mr. Hesham Puri of MK Law.
