Congratulations to Sharmistha Michaels, who has been appointed as a legal adviser for the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA). Sharmistha is one of the seven new members joining the pool of legal advisors for the IFoA.

Sharmistha Michaels specialises in human rights, extradition, immigration, asylum and professional discipline and regulatory law. She has significant in-house advisory and litigation experience having previously worked as an employed barrister for the Government Legal Department and the Ministry of Defence. She began her legal career at the Serious Organised Crime Agency where she specialised in proceeds of crime. Sharmistha currently holds appointments as a Legally Qualified Chair/Legal Assessor of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service, Legally Qualified Chair for the Police Misconduct Panel (East of England) and Legally Qualified Chair of the Investigating Committee Panel for the Health and Care Professions Council.
