Richard Hayes, was sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment under an extended sentence for public protection for his brutal rape of a vulnerable man.

Edward Connell prosecuted the case at Maidstone Crown Court, where Mr Hayes from Chatham, had denied five offences of rape and one of assault by penetration.  

He was convicted last month and appeared before Judge Charles Macdonald on Wednesday 22 February 2017, for sentencing.

The judge made the following remarks when sentencing Richard Hayes:

“Each offence was characterised by the consumption of a large amount of alcohol,” said 

“There is no mitigation. There is serious victim impact. He lost confidence and became a recluse.”
