Samantha Burmis applied for a teaching job in a Kent school but failed to declare that she had previous convictions for fraud for which she had been imprisoned. Following her dismissal from the school for gross misconduct, Samantha Burmis brought an employment tribunal claim which she won. With the remedies hearing still to be heard and Samantha Burmis believing that her claim was worth £1.2 million, she sought to challenge the finding that she had previous convictions. She instructed a fingerprint expert to take her prints but in a plan that was doomed to failure, her daughter Nina gave her prints pretending to be her mother.
