Successfully prosecuted by Dominic Connolly, Lee Cekic was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment having pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and false imprisonment. In what was described by the sentencing judge as a “sustained and horrific attack”, the victim, the former boyfriend of Lee Cekic’s sister, was stabbed in the head with a key, suffered bleeding on the brain, a fractured skull and was beaten unconscious during a car journey between Thanet and Herne Bay. The victim was then dumped on a cliff top.
His sister, father and mother were each sentenced to 21 months imprisonment for perverting the course of justice in attempts to impede the subsequent police investigation. Sister Jade Cekic lied to police about the clothing she and another had worn that evening. Father Negovan Cekic collected him from Herne Bay where he had burnt the car in which the attacks had taken place. Mother Paula Cekic lied about telephone contact she had received from her son after the attack and deleted texts.
