The charges against Robert Smith, dubbed the “Legend of Lymington” for painting a Royal Mail postbox gold, have been dropped.

Following the unprecedented success of Ben Ainslie in this summers Olympic games, Robert Smith, a local supporter, painted one of Lymington’s postboxes gold, swiftly resulting in an arrest for criminal damage.

Simon Draycott Q.C. was immediately instructed. Three days later the Royal Mail abandoned the prosecution. The Royal Mail are now supporting Robert Smith’s campaign and following discussions with Olympian Ben Ainsle, have agreed to re-paint the postbox gold.
