Mark Cotter QC and David McNeill discuss diminished responsibility, insanity and hybrid sentences and take a look at the practical and tactical difficulties that arise as part of 5SAH's Autumn Series.

Mark took silk in 2017, following a highly successful career as a junior specialising in serious and heavy crime. He undertakes a significant amount of private work and has, for many years, been ranked in Chambers and Partners as a leader in the field of crime at the London Bar. Mark is also ranked in the Legal 500 as a leading individual in the field of crime at the London Bar. Mark is a specialist in the field of criminal defence and has extensive experience in all areas of criminal work, from murder to money laundering. His particular areas of expertise include acting in cases involving homicide, fraud and serious sexual offending.

David prosecutes and defends in a wide range of serious cases, specialising in organised and complex crime. He has been led in cases involving VAT fraud, tobacco and alcohol excise fraud, MTIC fraud and very large scale confidence fraud. Acting alone, he has conducted trials for the production, supply and importation of Class A drugs and importation, serious fraud, money laundering, GBH, kidnapping, immigration offences and serious sexual offences.
