Hannah Steventon was awarded a scholarship from the South Eastern Circuit to participate in the Gerald T. Bennett prosecutor/public defender trial training program at the University of Florida.
Hannah was one of four junior barristers selected to receive the scholarship after a series of interviews conducted by Benjamin Aina KC and Maria Karaiskos KC of Church Court Chambers.
The course involved advocacy assessments based on a murder trial, including opening and closing statements, direct and cross-examination, and handling expert witnesses. After each exercise, evaluations were conducted followed by video reviews by members of the Bar and the judiciary of Florida. The week also involved a number of lectures and demonstrations including jurisdictional comparisons by the attending silks. Hannah also assisted in organising a reception by the British delegates for faculty and participants.
Hannah Steventon is a third-six Pupil at 5 St Andrew’s Hill Chambers and she prosecutes and defends in the Magistrate’s and Crown Court in addition to her experience in Youth Court matters. She accepts Extradition instructions and is hoping to build a practice in this area, alongside her criminal instructions.
