In the last month, Sarah Fairbairn, instructed by MK Law, has secured unanimous acquittals in an attempted murder trial at the Old Bailey and a rape and robbery trial at Woolwich Crown Court.
In the attempted murder trial, the Defendant had pleaded guilty to s18 GBH but denied an intention to kill the victim. The Defendant gave evidence. He accepted his involvement in an attempted robbery and accepted stabbing the victim but he maintained he then left the property before the majority of stab wounds were inflicted by his unidentified accomplice. Sarah successfully argued that the attack was a robbery gone wrong, not an attempted murder, securing an acquittal in less than two hours. Sarah was instructed by Jonathan Mellody at MK Law.
In the rape trial, it was alleged that the Defendant had dragged the complainant from the street into the stairwell of a block of flats at 4am and that he had then raped her and robbed her. The Defendant accepted having sex with her but maintained it was consensual. He accepted stealing items from her handbag but denied he had used any force to do so. He pleaded guilty to theft. Following a 7 day trial, he was unanimously acquitted of both counts. Sarah was instructed by Terisa Chaudary at MK Law.
Sarah Fairbairn practises in all areas of criminal defence. She has developed a busy Crown Court practice, spanning a wide range of offences including murder, drugs, dishonesty, violence and sexual offences.
