Barnaby Hone, instructed by Siobhain Egan of Lewis Nedas, successfully advised a client who had over £1 million frozen under an Account Freezing Order obtained by the National Crime Agency (NCA). The funds originated as cryptocurrency and had been traded through various crypto exchanges. The NCA alleged that the cryptocurrency was the proceeds of criminal activity.

Working closely with those instructing him and the client, Barnaby prepared a detailed response addressing the allegations. The response explained the origins of the cryptocurrency and how it had been transferred to the account that was subsequently frozen. After reviewing the response, the NCA agreed to discharge the order—less than five weeks after it had been made.

Barnaby Hone specialises in the Proceeds of Crime Act and has a particular expertise in cryptocurrency. He has dealt with crypto-related cases for over ten years.
