Edmund Burge K.C. and Mark Mullins have successfully prosecuted a 20 year-old paranoid schizophrenic for the fatal stabbing of a man in Tilbury, Essex.  In a three-week trial in January 2023 Darnel Curtin denied murder and manslaughter, claiming to have acted in self defence.   That was rejected by the jury, who accepted the evidence of two forensic psychiatrists that Curtin was acutely psychotic at the time of the killing such that his responsibility for the murder should be reduced to manslaughter.

Curtin will be sentenced in March 2023.
