Yesterday, 5 July 2021, Andrew Bird QC and Jonathan Hall QC were due to appear on behalf of the NCA at Westminster Magistrates' Court to start a contested forfeiture hearing involving a Politically Exposed Person. However, an agreement was reached, whereby just over £4m will be forfeited to the NCA. These funds had been transferred to the UK via the Azerbaijan Laundromat money laundering scheme.
