Chambers elects new Head of Chambers, David Josse QC

Chambers are delighted to announce that David Josse QC has been elected Head of Chambers.  

David Josse QC was called to the bar in 1985 and took silk in 2009. He is a barrister specialising in extradition, human rights, international war crimes and serious crime, both nationally and internationally.  Since taking Silk he has specialised in extradition work encompassing the full range of requests but with a particular emphasis on political corruption and prison conditions in former communist states. He spent 5 years at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) based in The Hague defending in two lengthy trials. Firstly, representing a leading Bosnian Serb politician charged with genocide and ethnic cleansing and secondly, a General facing a wide variety of allegations relating to the Srebrenica massacre.

Upon becoming elected as Head of Chambers, David Josse QC made the following remarks:

"In becoming Head of Chambers I must first acknowledge the debt 5 St Andrew's Hill owes to my predecessor, Simon Draycott QC who died in August. Simon was a highly effective and much loved Head whose wise counsel and leadership will be greatly missed. The publicly funded Bar has been under much pressure of late but these Chambers have continued to prosper both with that type of work as well as with an expanding volume of private instructions. As the new Head I am determined to see this upward trend continue and that 5 St Andrew's Hill consolidates its position as a market leader in the various areas of practice that its members offer."
