Dominic Connolly prosecuted Ruth Bray, who pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court to two counts of false accounting relating to the bank accounts of two autistic adults in her care. Ms Bray worked as an Independent Living Manager for Kent Autistic Trust (“KAT”) and had access to the two victims’ bank accounts, one of whom was resident at KAT premises in Chatham. Between April 2008 and May 2011, she abused her position by making a total of 180 illicit ATM withdrawals, totalling in excess of £13,000. Mr Bray resigned from her role at KAT in July 2011 after colleagues reported discrepancies in the accounts.
