Edmund Burge, a member of the 5SAH Criminal Team, secured the conviction on all counts of one of the organisers behind the importation of a multi-million pound consignment of class A and class B drugs, plus a loaded semi-automatic weapon and ammunition. Philip Roe, a mechanic and driver for the Kawasaki World Superbike team, was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for helping to organise the consignment (7kg of cocaine, 275,000 ecstasy tablets and nearly 100kg of cannabis, plus the firearms) to be smuggled into the UK in his co-driver’s Kawasaki team lorry. Roe claimed to know nothing about the smuggling operation and blamed other members of the Kawasaki team, but text messages retrieved from his phone and computer showed he was instrumental in organising the drugs to be imported while returning from a World Superbike race meeting in Holland in 2011.
