David McNeill, prosecuting for the London Borough of Croydon, opened the case before Croydon Magistrates’ Court. Poundland was fined for 5 food safety offences and ordered to pay full costs. The case has received attention in local and national newspapers for the size of the fines and the scale of the infestation at Poundland’s Croydon store.
