Francesca Levett secured a conviction against a grandmother who had lied to the authorities to claim Widow’s benefit as well as misleading officials in relation to claims for Housing Benefit.

The defendant was given a 6 month jail sentence and Judge Ruth Downing said the message to the public was that the court treated such offences seriously. She also went on to say the defendant had “lied and lied” and had shown a complete lack of remorse for her crimes.
