| Speakers: | Ben Keith, Rhys Davies, Cristian González Ruiz |
Ben Keith will be speaking at the Bar Association in Buenos Aires on 2 December at an international conference on Transnational Organized Crime and International Criminal Law.
The conference addresses key issues, including the International Criminal Court's jurisdiction, strategic defence in transnational cases, international corruption, and the role of INTERPOL in cross-border law enforcement.
Ben will speak alongside Rhys Davies (Temple Garden Chambers) on INTERPOL, its fight against international crime, and the misuse of its channels by authoritarian regimes. The panel will explore how INTERPOL's Red Notice system operates in practice, how it can be exploited for political purposes, and what mechanisms exist to challenge abusive notices.
The past year has seen significant increases in INTERPOL engagement across South America. This includes the Santiago declaration by police chiefs committing to increased use of INTERPOL systems, meetings in Brasilia addressing transnational organised crime, and Brazilian President Lula's visit to INTERPOL headquarters in Lyon, which saw the launch of a new regional task force.
Ben has extensive experience in extradition and international criminal law, particularly in challenging politically motivated Red Notices and representing clients facing transnational repression.
