Trust your neighbour? Mutual recognition of extradition decisions: ECJ examines extradition to Georgia from Belgium and France of the same requested person.
- Jean-Christophe De Block, Belgian lawyer, and Marie Poirot, French lawyer, will present one of their cases currently pending before the European Court of Justice:
A Belgian court refused the extradition of a Greek citizen to Georgia, where he was sentenced to life in prison, on the basis of risks of violation of articles 3 and 6 of the ECHR. He was later arrested in France and the same extradition request was sent from Georgia to France.
This case questions the principle of mutual recognition of extradition decisions, especially when the refusal to extradite is based on a risk of violation of fundamental rights protected by European law.
If you are interested in attending please email admin@delf.org.uk as places are limited.
This event is for DELF members only.
