Overview
Ellen prosecutes and defends in a wide range of criminal cases. She has a growing practice in proceeds of crime and extradition and is keen to expand her professional discipline practice.
Ellen has undertaken specialist Youth Justice training with the Youth Justice Legal Centre and is confident dealing with young and vulnerable clients.
She is on the Attorney General’s Junior-Junior Panel and has accepted instructions on behalf of the Ministry of Justice. She is a Grade 1 CPS prosecutor.

Additional information
Ellen comes to chambers having worked as the sole paralegal at Corker Binning Solicitors, where she assisted with criminal, extradition, and regulatory proceedings. She was a key member of the defence teams involved in several high-profile cases, including the money-laundering organisation accused of transporting £104m in cash-filled suitcases between London and Dubai – dubbed by the NCA as ‘the biggest money-laundering ring of its kind’.
Prior to this, Ellen was a Legal Assistant in the Regulatory Team at Kingsley Napley LLP where she developed a comprehensive knowledge of professional discipline. She carried a large caseload of fitness to practise cases, which she investigated and prepared on behalf of the HCPC, GDC, GOC, GPhC and EWC.
Ellen has represented clients pro bono in appeals before the First-Tier Tribunal (Social Security Chamber) and applications for bail before the Immigration & Asylum Chamber. She previously volunteered with the Amicus Florida Project and represented students facing exclusion on behalf of the Communities Empowerment Network.

Asset Recovery, Civil Fraud & Confiscation
Ellen has appeared in confiscation proceedings at the Crown Court, and account freezing order applications and enforcement proceedings at the Magistrates’ Court. She is keen to develop her POCA practice.
Ellen has a solid foundation of knowledge in this area having been a paralegal at two Tier 1 business crime firms prior to commencing pupillage.

Ellen has a busy crime practice and regularly appears in the Crown and Magistrates’ Courts. Ellen has dealt with a wide range of matters, including sexual crimes, drug offences and violence.
Ellen has experience in dealing with young and vulnerable defendants in the youth and adult courts.
She welcomes instructions in cases with a quasi-criminal jurisdiction, for example applications for Stalking Protection Orders.

Cases of Note
R v J (2023)
Instructed to represent J, a vulnerable defendant who was appealing his conviction for being drunk and in charge of a motor vehicle. The appeal was successful, and J’s conviction was quashed.
R v F (2023)
Secured a suspended sentence for F who pleaded guilty to multiple counts of possession with intent to supply Class A, despite F’s relevant previous convictions and the Judge’s initial indication that an immediate custodial sentence was appropriate.
R v B (2023)
Successful defence of a man charged with assaulting his partner. B made admissions to the offence in his police interview. Ellen successfully argued that the police interview should be excluded.
R v D (2023)
Secured a suspended sentence for D who pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified during the operational period of suspended sentence order. The original sentence was allowed to continue, and a further suspended sentence order was imposed in relation to the new offence.
