On Monday 27 February 2017, Edward Connell, instructed by ABC Solicitors in Southend, secured the acquittal of his client charged with rape.

The defendant was staying at the complainant's property overnight and it was alleged that after the complainant's husband went to work, the defendant had gone into her room and raped her whilst she slept. The defendant's case was that the sexual intercourse was consensual.

The jury returned a not guilty verdict in under an hour.
