Kevin Dent prosecutes dentist who falsely claimed £220,000 from the NHS.

Dentist Mark Walewski was imprisoned for 3 years for fraudulently claiming £220,000 from the NHS for dental work actually either carried out on a private basis or not performed at all. Mr Walewski was sentenced for fraudulently abusing the position of trust he enjoyed working as dentist performing under a contract with NHS Surrey. The fraud carried on for at least 6 years and involved over 6000 false claims. An investigation carried out by NHS Protect revealed that  Mr Walewski routinely submitted false claims to have carried out NHS Units of Dental Activity for work provided to patients on a private basis, some insurance-backed. Also, fictitious claims were made in respect of infants and children.

Kevin Dent was leading junior in this case brought by the Crown Prosecution Service Specialist Fraud Division.
