Jonathan has prosecuted and defended hundreds of trials and interlocutory hearings. These have included confiscation hearings and trials including the importation and supply of drugs, V.A.T and benefit frauds and serious violence. The varied nature of any quantity of cases he has appeared in has resulted in gaining a wealth of experience in eliciting evidence from children, hostile witnesses and the mentally unstable. He has also conducted a number of cases in the Court of Appeal.
Jonathan has recently been briefed as leading counsel in a six week conspiracy to steal case concerning the theft and subsequent exporting of hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of plant equipment.
Jonathan prides himself on providing a written advice on every trial brief received at the earliest opportunity thus ensuring that those instructing are aware of the prospects of success and if required have sufficient time to increase those prospects dealing with any deficiencies. He has been required to advise in respect of discreet areas of law and evidence such as disclosure of sensitive material for social services, police informants and the preparation of confiscation proceedings. He has advised on specific areas such as the use telephone intercept evidence, the obtaining of involuntary DNA samples from suspects, and the implications of interviewing mentally deficient suspects without appropriate adults. He is frequently consulted at the early stages of proceedings in order to ensure all measures are taken to correctly charge or correctly advise a defendant and always endeavours to ensure that the case presented is a strong one.
