Profile
Jonathan worked in the City for Goldman Sachs for 4 years before coming to the Bar. Whilst at Goldman’s he worked as an associate in the Investment Management Division with a particular focus on the structuring and distribution of the Asset Management Division’s range of offshore Funds (UCITS/Non-UCITS).
He now has a thriving Common Law practice with a growing expertise in fraud related law.
Crime
Jonathan has forged an established Crown Court Defence practice and has already acted in several trials particularly relating to serious and violent crime and is regularly briefed in the appellate courts on appeals against conviction and sentence including CCRC references.
Jonathan occasionally appears in the Magistrates Court, particularly when privately instructed in relation to motoring offences.
Commercial and Chancery
Jonathan has a broad practice in general commercial/chancery litigation (including sale and supply of goods and services, insurance disputes, estate agent claims, general contractual disputes and property disputes).
Jonathan has specific expertise in banking and funds law, having worked in the City for some 6 years in total with particular expertise in the Investment Management industry.
Having worked for the premier Wall Street Investment Bank, Goldman Sachs for the 4 years immediately prior to joining the Bar, Jonathan has particular experience in advising on and structuring Investment Management related Funds (UCITs and Non-UCITs). He recently advised CQS with the initial set up of their first Luxembourg SICAV offering.
Jonathan also advises on the law in relation to Custodians and Investment Managers; the marketing, registration and distribution of Funds; on private placements and on the UCITS/EU regulatory legal framework. Jonathan undertakes contentious and non-contentious advisory work on all aspects of Funds law including the appointment of directors and fiduciary duties on domestic, EU, and offshore based fund structures.
Landlord and Tenant
Jonathan has a particular expertise in the law relating to service charges and regularly acts for tenants and landlords in actions in the Lands Tribunal and the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal.
Administrative law
Jonathan undertakes all aspects of judicial review and public law work particularly for Claimants. His work focuses on prison law civil liberties and human rights but also professional regulation, education, local government, health, mental health, housing, prisons, public procurement, immigration, VAT and Customs & Excise.
Employment
Jonathan undertakes Tribunal work including CMDs, PHRs and full hearings involving unfair dismissal, wrongful dismissal, constructive dismissal, discrimination, equal pay, redundancy and maternity rights, unlawful deductions and unpaid holiday entitlement cases.
Jonathan is also a Registered Lawyer with the Football Association.
