Chambers occupies an historic site on Ireland Yard, where William Shakespeare bought his London home. It is a 2 minute walk from both St Paul's and Blackfriars. Shakespeare paid £140 for the gatehouse which a deed of conveyance for the property states was "...now or late being in the tenure or occupancy of one William Ireland... abutting upon a street leading down to Puddle Wharf on the east part, right against the Kinges Majesties Wardrobe". The King's Wardrobe was a department of the royal household and is still remembered in nearby Wardrobe Place and in the name of the church of St. Andrew's by the Wardrobe. In the Victorian era, a furrier's warehouse was built on the site. Chambers has purchased this building and invested rather more than £140 in a full refurbishment specifically designed to offer all the facilities required for 21st century litigation. The lower ground floor is dedicated to conference and seminar facilities. The three conference rooms are fully air conditioned and are equipped with video conferencing. The floor can open out into a large seminar room that can seat over 50 people.
The Clerks' room offers unrivalled clerking facilities in terms of size and equipment. It is fully computerised, running the Meridian diary and fees system. The Clerks can accept instructions by phone, fax or e-mail, and are equipped with ISDN photocopiers that can scan and e-mail large volumes of paperwork.
Three floors of the building have been divided into air-conditioned rooms offering a light and spacious working environment that is fully networked to a high speed broadband connection. The top floor is an innovative open-plan hot-desking space. The roof terrace offers stunning views over St Paul's and the city.
