Mary Westcott

Year of Call: 2007

Mary joined Chambers following an 18 month pupillage at 5 St Andrew's Hill. She has prosecuted and defended in almost all areas of crime.

Having worked as the legal assistant to the DPP's principle legal advisor, Mary has assisted and advised on grave, sensitive and very complex cases encompassing double jeopardy, deaths in custody and contentious charging decisions.

Between June 2009 and January 2010 Mary was seconded to the CPS Special Crime Division's Extradition Unit. This was the starting point to Mary's considerable expertise in Extradition law, although prior to this, she represented requested persons at first instance and in the High Court. By mixing specialist knowledge with well pitched advocacy Mary has an excellent reputation in this field, prosecuting and defending regularly at first instance and in the Administrative Court.

Beyond her specialist knowledge of extradition law, Mary has experience of Judicial Review and a keen interest in Public International Law.

Mary also accepts civil instructions. She has experience of cash detention and forfeiture; small claims in the County Court; and maintains an interest in Employment and Family law.

Before being called to the Bar, Mary worked for Labour MEP's in the European Parliament, based in Brussels and Strasbourg.
