Profile

Hannah is an experienced criminal practitioner with specialist expertise in extradition law.

Hannah is regularly instructed to advise and represent both issuing judicial authorities in European Arrest Warrant cases and requesting states in Part II cases at the Westminster Magistrates' Court and on appeal to the Administrative Court and Supreme Court. As an extradition barrister Hannah accepts instructions to represent requested persons following arrest at initial hearing through to appeal. Hannah has had particular success in aiding requested persons to 'compromise' their European Arrest Warrant, so that it is withdrawn in the requesting state and they are no longer sought in any Member State.

Hannah's instructions frequently involve technical legal issues requiring consideration of both UK and European legislation and authorities. Previous instructions have involved arguments on dual criminality; sufficiency of the extradition request and abuse of process. Additionally, Hannah acted for the Polish Government in their first extradition request from the Isle of Man since the implementation of the 2003 Act. Hannah is equally experienced in presenting human rights arguments necessitating the use of expert witnesses and complex medical evidence. Hannah has previously represented countries including USA, Sweden and France and requested persons sought by the UAE, Poland and Ireland in relation to offences ranging from theft of a radio to murder and high value fraud.

Hannah practises in all area of criminal law, accepting instructions in prosecution and defence matters in the Magistrates Court and Crown Court throughout London and the South-Eastern circuit. Hannah has particular experience in representing youths, those with mental health difficulties and cases involving vulnerable witnesses. As a defence advocate Hannah has successfully represented defendants charged with a variety of offences, including supply of Class A drugs, affray and fraud.

Hannah is a Grade 2 CPS advocate and also undertakes prosecution cases on behalf of the Department of Work and Pensions and local authorities

Hannah additionally receives instructions in prison law cases representing serving prisoners at adjudication and parole hearings, at immigration appeal tribunals, in applications for cash detention and forfeiture and in the small claims court.
