Profile

David joined 5 St Andrew’s Hill on successful completion of his pupillage in 2011.  He joined Chambers having worked in the third sector in various roles over 6 years including working for the Citizens Advice Bureau and as an Independent Mental Health Advocate.  David also worked as a paralegal at the Office of the Georgia Capital Defender on capital murder trials.

He is quickly establishing a busy common law practice reflecting his interests and experience.

Crime

David appears regularly in the Crown, Youth and Magistrates’ Courts.  David has experience in a full range of criminal matters from road traffic offences to historic sex offences and GBH.

He has a particular focus on those with mental health issues and is experienced in issues of fitness to plead before the Magistrates’ and Crown Courts as well as the ‘forensic’ sections of the MHA.

In addition he has been instructed in appellate matters before both the Court of Appeal and Crown Courts.

Extradition

David regularly accepts instructions to represent requested persons in extradition proceedings under both Part 1 and Part 2 of the Extradition Act.

Civil

David has experience of representation and advice in small, fast and multi-track claims across a broad range of legal areas.

Employment

David has strong experience of representation and advisory work in relation to employment disputes.  His cases in the past have involved a full range of issues including unfair and wrongful dismissal, unlawful deductions and discrimination.
David has particular experience in issues relating to mental health in discrimination and reasonable adjustment cases.

Mental Health

David has an excellent working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and has frequently given advice on both civil and forensic sections, as well as issues under s117.

David accepts instructions to appear before the Mental Health Review Tribunal and for advice and representation in Judicial Review proceedings.
